Build the food plan before the driving day
Choose one primary food stop near the day’s anchor activity, then save a grocery store or packed-meal backup. Check the route—not just the town name—because a promising option across a busy city may add more time than expected.
Diet preference and food allergy are not the same
A vegetarian or vegan label can help narrow the menu. An allergy requires a separate conversation about exact ingredients, preparation and cross-contact. “Gluten-free” may describe ingredients without describing a kitchen process appropriate for someone with celiac disease.
Make the backup normal
Pack familiar snacks, water and a simple meal your family can rely on. A backup is useful for limited hours, long waits, changed menus, tired children and remote stretches—not only dietary restrictions.
